Dani Alves claims that Lionel Messi is much better than Cristiano Ronaldo

Barcelona defender Dani Alves claims that Lionel Messi is much better than Cristiano Ronaldo since he is more of a team player.

Ronaldo has been criticised for his focus on personal statistics more than the performance of the team. Messi, on the other hand, has not worry too much about being able to end up as the top scorer in the la Liga last season. This is despite having plenty of chances to get past Ronaldo. On several occasions last season, Messi provided the likes of Luis Suarez and Neymar with an opportunity to score.

Alves recently ended speculation about an impending move to Paris St Germain or Manchester United by extending his contract with Barcelona. He was just a few weeks away from becoming a free agent but the Catalan club have signed him on a long-term contract even though he is above 30 years of age. The defender has signed a two-year deal with the option to add a further year. His presence cannot come at a much better time for Barcelona, who are struggling with the transfer ban. Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Ballon d’Or award in the last two seasons, but he is facing a tough fight from Messi once again for the upcoming trophy.

“Messi is much better than Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi influences the game, Cristiano doesn’t. He doesn’t influence the game beyond scoring goals and being involved in a few actions. Messi is influential – he plays, scores and makes assists. Messi has a divine gift, Cristiano is about work.Of course there was an incident but it was about being competitive.Luis Enrique saw an action in a training session in one way and Messi in another. Messi is very competitive and his team lost, so the argument blew up,” said Alves about Messi and his bust up with Luis Enrique.
