A new documentary shows claims the player reached out to Guardiola last term after feeling “trapped” at the Nou Camp.

Guardiola met the superstar in Spain about the move even though it never happened eventually. The documentary hinted that Messi’s father and his agent spoke with a City director over the purported move. All these were reported to have happened around early to mid-July 2016.

Messi was about to buckle under stress at the Catalan side so he met with the 46-year old. Messi’s father also reached out to the club president Josep Maria Bartomeu but he was told that Barcelona would not allow the player leave. Agreements were made and Messi signed a new deal to remain with the club – one that would take his career to a very advanced stage. Continue reading MESSI COULD HAVE MOVED TO MAN CITY

Messi’s suspension arrives at a crucial time for Argentina

The Argentine national football side has consistently been able to qualify for the FIFA World Cup since the 1978 edition and have made impressive performances in almost every single year when the competition was held as they have either reached the quarter-finals or been the runner-up in many of the World Cups.

Argentina are currently at risk of losing this string of consecutive qualifications as they are positioned at the 5th spot of the CONMEBOL group stages for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The latest 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification match of Argentina saw them losing 0-2 against Bolivia and taking into consideration the fact that there are only 4 more qualification matches left as well as the recent suspension of Lionel Messi, Argentina might not be able to qualify for the worldwide football competition if they continue to drop points.

On March 23 of 2017, Argentina faced off with Chile and came out on top with a 1-0 triumph but it came at a hefty price as Lionel Messi received a 4 match suspension after being accused of insulting the assistant referee of that game. Edgardo Bauza who has just replaced Martino at the head of the Argentina team said that he wants to have a conversation with Lionel Messi. He wants to see whether the player is still available for selection and whether he can count on him for the upcoming matches.

Argentina will be facing Uruguay and Venezuela in their next games that will count for the World Cup qualifiers. David Villa confident on Antoine Griezmann

Former Atletico Madrid forward David Villa believes that Antoine Griezmann is fast becoming one of the best players in the world.

He would classify the Frenchman is being on par with the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo – widely judged as the best players in the world. Griezmann has been linked with Chelsea in the last two transfer windows, but it is now looking highly unlikely that he will move away from the Vicente Calderon after having just experienced his best season till date. The French international has come up with 29 goals so far in all competitions.

Still just 25, Griezmann has the ability to develop his game even more. Villa was one of the renowned goalscorers during his peak. Even though he did not play for clubs like Real Madrid or Barcelona at the peak, there was always an interest surrounding the Spanish striker. Villa recently brought an end to his spell in European football by joining New York City FC. He has been a revelation in the MLS after being in fine goalscoring form at the start of the campaign. Villa did not have the chance to play with Griezmann as the French international came from Real Sociedad just as Villa was leaving. Continue reading David Villa confident on Antoine Griezmann

Luis Enrique is optimistic about the Champions League

Barcelona reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League after defeating Arsenal and was now pitted against Athletic Madrid. Even though Athletic Madrid are arguably one of the best teams that is still performing in the European competition, this does not seem to concern the head coach of Barcelona, Luis Enrique as he jokingly said that the only team he did not want to face was his own.

“The only team that I don’t want to draw is Barcelona. Luckily I don’t think we’ll get them, so I’m relaxed,” he said in his post-match press conference.

The other remaining clubs that are competing in the Champions League are: Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Athletic Madrid, Wolfsburg, Paris Saint-Germain, Benfica and Manchester City.

This is the 9th consecutive time that Barcelona have managed to get into the quarter-finals of the Champions League and this is evidence of the dominance that the Spanish club has been displaying for the past few years.

It’s safe to assume that Barcelona are the favorites on winning the Champions League of this current season as Luis Enrique has at his disposal the attacking combination of Luis Suarez, Neymar and Lionel Messi, this partnership is widely considered to be the best in the world if they get too overconfident it could finish with unexpected results and it’s what happened a few years ago during the quarterfinal stages of the 2013-14 Champions League season. Whenever he plays wearing a jersey of the Spanish club, Messi plays like his life is on the line and he makes sublime performances in every single match.

Things are completely different when Messi is performing with the Argentina shirt, the diminutive simply doesn’t seem like the same player. Dani Alves claims that Lionel Messi is much better than Cristiano Ronaldo

Barcelona defender Dani Alves claims that Lionel Messi is much better than Cristiano Ronaldo since he is more of a team player.

Ronaldo has been criticised for his focus on personal statistics more than the performance of the team. Messi, on the other hand, has not worry too much about being able to end up as the top scorer in the la Liga last season. This is despite having plenty of chances to get past Ronaldo. On several occasions last season, Messi provided the likes of Luis Suarez and Neymar with an opportunity to score.

Alves recently ended speculation about an impending move to Paris St Germain or Manchester United by extending his contract with Barcelona. He was just a few weeks away from becoming a free agent but the Catalan club have signed him on a long-term contract even though he is above 30 years of age. The defender has signed a two-year deal with the option to add a further year. His presence cannot come at a much better time for Barcelona, who are struggling with the transfer ban. Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Ballon d’Or award in the last two seasons, but he is facing a tough fight from Messi once again for the upcoming trophy.
