Lionel Messi Undisputed Number One in the World, says Enrique

After a mediocre start to 2016, Lionel Messi seems to be finding form at just the right time in the season for Barcelona.

The forward is widely seen as the best player in the world, but there were concerns about the dip in form that he experienced for much of last campaign. After having been a regular contender for the top goalscorer awards, Messi finished second even in the Barcelona squad and was close to being overtaken by Neymar. The superstar, though, has put an end to potential talk of a decline after managing to score yet another hat-trick in the Champions League.

The latest hat-trick came against Celtic, who were the visitors to the Camp Nou. The Scottish club had a new manager at the helm and Brendan Rodgers was adamant that they were not in the Champions League just to make up numbers. However, Barcelona dismissed them with a lot of ease in the opening group game of the season. Messi has now become the first player in the Champions League history to score six hat-tricks. This hat-trick is also his 40th for club and country. Those three goals also meant that Celtic suffered their worst defeat in this competition. Following the game, Enrique claimed that Messi was the undisputed number one in the world.

Argentina coach to convince Messi

New Argentina coach Edgardo Bauza has stated that he will try to convince Lionel Messi to come back on his decision to stop playing for the international team.

He said that Argentina still needs Lionel Messi and that it will be a great loss for the national team if Messi retires from international football.

Edgardo Bauza who has just replaced Martino at the head of the Argentina team said that he wants to have a conversation with Lionel Messi. He wants to see whether the player is still available for selection and whether he can count on him for the upcoming matches.

Argentina will be facing Uruguay and Venezuela in their next games that will count for the World Cup qualifiers. Argentina are currently third in the qualifying table and will want to get maximum points from these forthcoming matches. Edgardo Bauza will want to have his best players for this game as they do not have a lot of room for mistakes.

He said that as a former player he has also been through the disappointment of losing a final and wanting to quit everything. He believes that this decision can be reversed, but it will be up to Lionel Messi to decide. This is why he wants to have a chat with the player first to see what he thinks of the new project for the national team. Continue reading Argentina coach to convince Messi

Barcelona’s Lionel Messi is set to avoid prison despite the almost two years jail term he received for tax fraud in Spain.

Many feared that the very talented player and five-time World Footballer of the Year Award winner might take a break from the special game but this wouldn’t be happening as he would only be on probation throughout the time of the sentences.

The player and his father were standing trial for tax fraud committed between 2007 and 2009. The Court ruled that the player should serve a sentence of seven months for each year. However, as this was the first time he was standing before the Court and the sentence was less than two years, the player wouldn’t take a break from football.

The 29-year old superstar wasn’t happy with the sentencing and his lawyers say they would appeal the verdict and are pretty sure that the sentencing would be different. Messi’s father received the same sentencing.

Aside the jail term, both parties would pay a fine to the authorities. Messi is ordered to pay $2.3 million but his father would pay $1.7 million. Since his father doesn’t have a criminal record, he wouldn’t serve the time in prison as well. The club issued a statement on their website immediately the court issued its verdict. The statement reads that the club is giving its support to the player and his father as they defend their interests. Continue reading MESSI WILL AVOID PRISON DESPITE 21 MONTHS JAIL TERM

David Villa confident on Antoine Griezmann

Former Atletico Madrid forward David Villa believes that Antoine Griezmann is fast becoming one of the best players in the world.

He would classify the Frenchman is being on par with the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo – widely judged as the best players in the world. Griezmann has been linked with Chelsea in the last two transfer windows, but it is now looking highly unlikely that he will move away from the Vicente Calderon after having just experienced his best season till date. The French international has come up with 29 goals so far in all competitions.

Still just 25, Griezmann has the ability to develop his game even more. Villa was one of the renowned goalscorers during his peak. Even though he did not play for clubs like Real Madrid or Barcelona at the peak, there was always an interest surrounding the Spanish striker. Villa recently brought an end to his spell in European football by joining New York City FC. He has been a revelation in the MLS after being in fine goalscoring form at the start of the campaign. Villa did not have the chance to play with Griezmann as the French international came from Real Sociedad just as Villa was leaving. Continue reading David Villa confident on Antoine Griezmann

Luis Enrique is optimistic about the Champions League

Barcelona reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League after defeating Arsenal and was now pitted against Athletic Madrid. Even though Athletic Madrid are arguably one of the best teams that is still performing in the European competition, this does not seem to concern the head coach of Barcelona, Luis Enrique as he jokingly said that the only team he did not want to face was his own.

“The only team that I don’t want to draw is Barcelona. Luckily I don’t think we’ll get them, so I’m relaxed,” he said in his post-match press conference.

The other remaining clubs that are competing in the Champions League are: Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Athletic Madrid, Wolfsburg, Paris Saint-Germain, Benfica and Manchester City.

This is the 9th consecutive time that Barcelona have managed to get into the quarter-finals of the Champions League and this is evidence of the dominance that the Spanish club has been displaying for the past few years.

It’s safe to assume that Barcelona are the favorites on winning the Champions League of this current season as Luis Enrique has at his disposal the attacking combination of Luis Suarez, Neymar and Lionel Messi, this partnership is widely considered to be the best in the world if they get too overconfident it could finish with unexpected results and it’s what happened a few years ago during the quarterfinal stages of the 2013-14 Champions League season. Lionel Messi is widely considered to be the best player in the world, some even say that he’s the best in the history of the sport and this is mainly due to the feats that he has accomplished with Barcelona. Whenever he plays wearing a jersey of the Spanish club, Messi plays like his life is on the line and he makes sublime performances in every single match.

Things are completely different when Messi is performing with the Argentina shirt, the diminutive simply doesn’t seem like the same player. With Argentina, Messi is usually performing at a mediocre level there are some exceptions however, but in the vast majority of the times, his performances are underwhelming especially when compared to his Barcelona ones.

Dani Alves claims that Lionel Messi is much better than Cristiano Ronaldo

Barcelona defender Dani Alves claims that Lionel Messi is much better than Cristiano Ronaldo since he is more of a team player.

Ronaldo has been criticised for his focus on personal statistics more than the performance of the team. Messi, on the other hand, has not worry too much about being able to end up as the top scorer in the la Liga last season. This is despite having plenty of chances to get past Ronaldo. On several occasions last season, Messi provided the likes of Luis Suarez and Neymar with an opportunity to score.

Alves recently ended speculation about an impending move to Paris St Germain or Manchester United by extending his contract with Barcelona. He was just a few weeks away from becoming a free agent but the Catalan club have signed him on a long-term contract even though he is above 30 years of age. The defender has signed a two-year deal with the option to add a further year. His presence cannot come at a much better time for Barcelona, who are struggling with the transfer ban. Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Ballon d’Or award in the last two seasons, but he is facing a tough fight from Messi once again for the upcoming trophy.
